MetaPort does analytics and mapping too, and is used on a regular basis by my staff to manage all of our voice, data and IP network elements.

As soon as I visualized my network, I was able to pin point the economic benefits for moving to SIP.

It seems that, from a Layer 3 and down the stack perspective, we tend to forget tons of network added benefit from the cloud transformation strategy

Cases

Network Operations

In IT, we are asked more and more to contribute to advancing the objectives of the core business. This requires a regular study of new technologies and strategies for implementation in order to improve the business. Planning and engineering occupy a large portion of the IT Manager’s time. However, the operations and maintenance of the IT Network never stops. Incident management, day-to-day additions or changes, and routine maintenance work all needs to be carried out and always seems to take longer than we’d like.

“MetaPort does analytics and mapping too, and is used on a regular basis by my staff to optimize and manage our voice, data and IP network. It’s cloud-based and always updated, so it helps our network operations team know where we are with the network, all the details and its costs at any given time. Very powerful.”

Tim Ramsay – Information Security Officer and Associate Vice President at University of Miami

Difficulties

How do you effectively manage changes in your network? What do you have right now? How do different strategies look before they are realized? How do I respond to my internal customers about details of their own infrastructure? And most importantly, how can I get the details I need at the time that is most urgently needed (when the network is down)?

Transforming the way we work

With MetaPort® you can capture all of your network details in an amazingly short time frame (…sometimes mere hours, but typically in a couple of days, regardless of the type of network or structure that you have). The network discovery process is extremely easy. You can find details of how you do this at Connecting Service Providers to MetaPort.

Once you have discovered your network, you will now get a comprehensive view of what you have, where it is, and how much each component of your network is costing you. To give you an idea of the details at your fingertips, or to explore and help you work through your transformation strategy, take our Tour or See Features. For more details, schedule your own MetaPort Demo, only 10 minutes with an expert to see it all.

MetaPort also produces a transformational business case for you. This business case gives you an idea of how your transformational IP strategies could affect your network, and most importantly, the financial impact on the new design and architecture in comparison to your current network. It takes no time for you. Two cases are provided: Voice TDM-to-SIP and Data TDM-to-Ethernet/IP. For more details on this feature, schedule your own MetaPort Demo.

Unified Communications and IP Transformation

We are all under the impression that SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) brings better economics to our voice network services, that it facilitates the way we collaborate within the organization, and that it assists centralized management, amongst many other benefits. But why then, are there only few enterprise-wide SIP implementations?

There are many other market forces been advertised to the enterprise today, like BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) and the Mobile-like services, who rely heavily on SIP as their core signaling protocol. Whilst these taking off, why are only a few enterprise-wide SIP implementations moving forward?

If the modernization of your voice infrastructure is not powerful enough at the moment or if you don’t have the time to analyze your specific situation, that might be okay for now, but the clock is ticking. Telecom Service Providers are forcing a migration from traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) to a new all IP-based services. The industry terminology for this is PSTN Sunset. Here is, for example, AT&T’s view. You have the option of transforming your network at your own pace or doing so at the time legacy services and technologies are no longer supported.

“As soon as I visualized my network, I was able to pin point the benefits for moving to newer technologies. The whole project was self-funded! Now, not only I can control the transformation, I plan my network for the future, and my entire  team can easily find the information they need to help them operate our network”

Gilbert Albornoz, Corporate Director of Network & Telecom - Baptist Health South Florida

Cloud transformation and what my IT Network has to do with it?

Moving to the cloud has been pushed to enterprise as an effective and dynamic technology strategy. Growth server flexibility, higher survivability and lower power consumption are among the traditional advantages advertised when moving to the cloud.  So, what does my IT Network has to do with it?

Well, as we get busy planning for our cloud transformation, we often forget, until the last moment, that our core network will undergo a significant transformation. Flows of packets will now be centralized rather than distributed, and so our new network architecture could change completely.  This transformation is tremendously powerful and convenient for the overall project effectiveness and success. If you want to take full advantage of your cloud & data center centralization strategy, these elements in your domain will help you to validate and maximize the value of cloud transformation strategy.

Talking to customers, it seems that, from a Layer 3 and down the stack perspective, we tend to forget tons of network added benefit from the cloud transformation strategy

Difficulties

How do you define your transformational path effectively? How do I you not only clarify what your needs are in the data center centric architecture, but what is that you have currently? How is it going to look? And most powerfully, what is the economic impact of the change?
